Central Missouri Mules defeat New Mexico Highlands Cowboys to improve season record

The Central Missouri Mules men's basketball team improved its season record to 2-1 after a 78-74 victory over the New Mexico Highlands Cowboys on Sunday, November 9. The game was played at Alterowitz Gymnasium in Billings, Montana, as part of the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic.

Central Missouri overcame a six-point halftime deficit and took control late in the second half with a 10-1 run. Guard Lazerek Houston capped the run with a converted and-one foul shot, helping the Mules secure their lead for good.

Houston led all scorers with 31 points, shooting 11-of-18 from the field and making three of six attempts from three-point range. He also contributed three assists and two rebounds. Four Mules players finished in double figures. Sophomore Kyran Tilley added 14 points along with five assists and two rebounds.

Jevon Hill recorded a team-high six rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and scored 13 points. Jake Fritz matched Hill's scoring total while contributing two rebounds and two assists. The team collectively shot 50 percent from the field and made nearly 39 percent of their shots from beyond the arc.

Freshman Carter Kaifes had four rebounds and three points off the bench. Forwards Trinell Parker and Kyree Polk each collected three rebounds and scored two points.

Central Missouri will continue its season on Friday, November 14 against Minnesota State at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kansas during the Central Region Challenge.
