Central Missouri Mules defeat No.10 Colorado Mines in season opener

Central Missouri Mules began their basketball season with a 96-84 victory over the No. 10 ranked Colorado School of Mines Orediggers on Friday, Nov. 7, at the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic held in Billings, Montana.

The Mules established an 18-point lead by halftime, shooting 60 percent from the field. Junior Jevon Hill scored 11 points in the first half, while guard Lazerek Houston contributed 10 points along with seven assists and three rebounds before the break.

Despite a second-half push from Colorado Mines that cut the deficit to six points, Central Missouri maintained control throughout the game. This win marks the program's 89th season-opening victory.

Houston led all scorers with a double-double performance: he finished with 35 points on 12-of-19 shooting, added 11 assists, five rebounds, and four steals. Four Mules reached double figures in scoring. Hill ended with 16 points and four rebounds. Deadric Fikes contributed 14 points and recorded a game-high five steals, while Trinell Parker had 13 points, seven rebounds, and one block.

Other contributors included Naz Brown (five points), Kyran Tilley (four points and four assists), Carter Kaifes (four points and three rebounds), Noah Martin (three points), and Jake Fritz (two points). The team shot nearly 61 percent from the floor overall.

Central Missouri continues its participation in the D2CCA Tip-Off Classic on Saturday, Nov. 8, facing Montana State-Billings at Alterowitz Gymnasium at 2:00 p.m. CST.
