Bothwell Regional Health Center announced that its Sleep Center has maintained accreditation from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) for 15 consecutive years. This recognition highlights the center’s ongoing efforts to provide care for patients with sleep disorders.
“The American Academy of Sleep Medicine congratulates Bothwell Sleep Center on meeting the rigorous standards required to maintain accreditation for sleep services,” said AASM President Dr. Anita V. Shelgikar. “AASM accreditation is the gold standard for sleep care, reflecting a commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centered services that help people sleep better and live healthier lives.”
The AASM, established in 1975, serves as the national accrediting body for sleep disorder centers and is recognized as a leading professional society in sleep medicine. The organization supports advancements in sleep care through setting standards, advocacy, education, and research. Since it began accrediting centers in 1977, more than 2,300 facilities nationwide have received this designation.
To achieve and keep accreditation over each five-year period, centers must fulfill strict requirements related to staff qualifications, facility standards, equipment maintenance, policies and procedures, data collection methods, patient care practices, and quality assurance measures. Centers are also expected to outline clear goals aimed at improving medical care within their communities.
Bothwell Sleep Center has held AASM accreditation since 2010 by maintaining these standards through continuous improvement initiatives. Staffed by a physician and certified technologists, the center diagnoses and treats various conditions including insomnia, sleep apnea, restless legs syndrome, and narcolepsy.
Marvin Smoot, vice president of Clinic Operations at Bothwell Regional Health Center, commented on the achievement: “Achieving 15 years of uninterrupted accreditation is a significant accomplishment,” he said. “It represents a sustained commitment to safety, innovation and high-quality care, and I’m grateful for the entire team’s hard work and expertise.”
