Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) will host its fourth annual Blue Ribbon Bash on March 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Milestones Barn in Warrensburg, Missouri. This event aims to raise awareness about colorectal cancer and is open to the public free of charge.

The Blue Ribbon Bash will provide attendees with information on preventing colon cancer. The event will feature vendor booths, giveaways, and a special presentation focused on colorectal cancer prevention. Participants can register for the event and order exclusive Blue Ribbon Bash T-shirts through WMMC's website.

According to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, colorectal cancer ranks as the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States and is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths. Each year, approximately 150,000 Americans receive a diagnosis of this type of cancer.

"More than half of all colorectal cancers are attributable to modifiable risk factors," including smoking, unhealthy diets, high alcohol consumption, physical inactivity, and excess body weight. Regular screening and surveillance can significantly reduce both incidence and mortality rates associated with colorectal cancer.

Screening has proven effective in preventing colorectal cancer or catching it early when it is highly treatable. Since the mid-1980s, deaths from this disease have decreased due to increased screening efforts and lifestyle changes. Currently, there are over 1.5 million survivors of colorectal cancer in the U.S.

Most insurance providers cover colonoscopies for individuals aged 45 or older. Those interested in scheduling a colonoscopy can visit WMMC's website or call their provided contact number.
