Fitzgibbon Hospital has expanded access to urgent care by offering walk-in and same-day appointments at all of its primary care sites, with the exception of Mid-Missouri Family Health, which provides influenza vaccines by appointment only. This move aims to help families who need timely medical attention but do not require emergency room services.
Fitzgibbon-affiliated family practice clinics are open for walk-in visits Monday through Friday. Fitzgibbon Family Health in Fayette allows walk-ins from Monday through Thursday and on alternating Fridays when Dr. Lorenzo Romney is available. Patients are encouraged to call ahead to confirm provider availability at (660) 248-2900.
The hospital highlights guidance from Medline Plus, a resource maintained by the National Institutes of Health’s Library of Medicine, regarding when patients should use emergency services or seek primary care. According to this guidance, if an illness or injury could result in death or permanent disability for a person or unborn baby, it is considered an emergency and 911 should be called immediately.
For mental health crises, individuals are advised: "If you are thinking about hurting yourself or others, call or text 988 or chat 988lifeline.org. You can also call 1-800-273-8255 (1-800-273-TALK). The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline provides free and confidential support 24/7, anytime day or night. You can also call 911 or the local emergency number or go to the hospital emergency room. DO NOT delay. If someone you know has attempted suicide, call 911 or the local emergency number right away. DO NOT leave the person alone, even after you have called for help."
Patients with non-life-threatening concerns who cannot see their regular provider soon enough are encouraged to use one of Fitzgibbon’s primary care clinics for issues that do not pose an immediate risk of disability.
The hospital advises patients who are uncertain about where to seek care to contact their provider's office; after hours calls may be forwarded to an on-call nurse or provider who can assist in determining appropriate next steps.
