Central Missouri Jennies volleyball falls in five sets to Emporia State

No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team was defeated by Emporia State Hornets in a five-set match on Friday, October 17, at White Auditorium in Emporia, Kansas. The Hornets, who have received votes in national rankings, improved their record to 16-3 overall and 7-1 in the MIAA, while the Jennies fell to 14-5 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

The match was closely contested, with the teams splitting the first two sets. Emporia State took the third set, but Central Missouri responded in the fourth. A key moment in the fourth set came when head coach Caitlin Peterson successfully challenged a kill by Emporia State, giving the Jennies a two-point lead. Central Missouri forced a fifth set after a block by Rachel Ziesman and Lauren Blake secured the fourth set.

In the deciding fifth set, the Jennies trailed early but managed to close the gap before Emporia State finished on top. Redshirt sophomore Emma Siron led Central Missouri with 18 kills and 17 digs, while Maya Fergerson added seven kills. Four Jennies recorded double-digit digs, including Grace Winkelmann, who had 16.

Central Missouri will continue its MIAA schedule on Friday, October 24, when they travel to Joplin, Missouri, to face the Missouri Southern Lions.
