The No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team was defeated by the No. 2 Washburn Ichabods in straight sets (20-25, 21-25, 23-25) on Thursday at Whiting Fieldhouse in Topeka. The loss brings the Jennies' record to 14-4 overall and 6-2 in MIAA play, while Washburn improves to 18-1 overall and 7-1 in conference matches.
Washburn secured the win by taking the first two sets and finishing with a close third set victory. Austin Broadie led the Ichabods with a match-high 12 kills.
For Central Missouri, junior Shaye Koski was the top offensive performer with 10 kills on 25 attempts and a .320 hitting percentage. Middle blockers Kaelyn McDonald and Rachel Ziesman each contributed nine kills, with McDonald also recording a match-high five blocks and Ziesman adding two blocks.
Setter Kayla Baer posted a match-best 35 assists along with a team-high 12 digs and three kills. Grace Winkelmann, who was recently named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week, had 10 digs and three assists.
Emma Siron from Sedalia, Missouri added nine digs, five kills, and two blocks. Sophomore Brenna Kelly chipped in six digs during the match.
Central Missouri will continue its MIAA schedule on Friday, Oct. 17, facing Emporia State Hornets (15-3, 6-1 MIAA) at White Auditorium in Emporia at 6:00 p.m.
