Grace Winkelmann named MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week for second consecutive week

Central Missouri Jennies volleyball libero Grace Winkelmann has been named the MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement from the conference office on Monday, October 13.

This marks the second consecutive week that a member of the Jennies has received this honor. The team recently achieved three victories in conference play, including straight-set wins over Missouri Southern and Newman, as well as a 3-1 win against Pittsburg State.

Winkelmann, who is from Rhineland, Missouri, tallied 67 digs, 11 assists, and 10 service aces across three matches last week. She averaged 6.7 digs per set. In the match against Missouri Southern, she led with 16 digs, four assists, and three service aces. Against Pittsburg State, she recorded a match-high 31 digs.

During the sweep of Newman on Saturday at Dr. Peggy Martin Court, Winkelmann posted 20 digs and achieved a career-best six service aces. With her performance in that match, she moved into sixth place in program history for career digs with 1,705, surpassing Emily Applebaum’s record set between 1984 and 1987.

The No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies will continue their MIAA schedule with a top-25 matchup at No. 9 Washburn on Thursday, October 16. The match is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. at Whiting Fieldhouse in Topeka, Kansas.

"Winkelmann collected 67 digs, 11 assists, and 10 service aces through three matches last week," stated the announcement. "Against the Lions, Winkelmann collected a match-high 16 digs, four assists, and three service aces before having a match-best 31 digs against the Gorillas."

"In the winning effort over Newman, Winkelmann moved into sixth place in program history with 1,705 digs," according to the release.
