Patsy O'Brien scored the only goal of the match less than two minutes after kickoff, helping the No. 9 Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team secure a 1-0 victory over Missouri Western State University on Sunday at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
O'Brien, a sophomore forward from Prairie Village, Kansas, found the net at 1:49 into the game with an assist from Coryn Jespersen. This marked O'Brien's third goal and Jespersen's second assist of the season.
The rest of the match remained scoreless, allowing Central Missouri to maintain its lead until the final whistle. The Jennies outshot Missouri Western 12-11 and had a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. They also led in corner kicks, taking seven compared to Missouri Western's two.
Central Missouri goalkeeper Kristen Wright recorded her fifth shutout of the season by making four saves and conceding no goals during her 90 minutes on the field.
With this win, Central Missouri improved its record to 7-2-3 overall and 4-0-2 in MIAA play. The team is scheduled to play its next conference match against Central Oklahoma in Edmond on Friday, October 17.
