No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team secured a 3-0 victory over the Newman Jets on Saturday, October 11, at the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg. The set scores were 25-14, 25-15, and 25-14.
Libero Grace Winkelmann played a key role in the win, achieving a career-best six service aces and recording a match-high 20 digs. With these numbers, Winkelmann now holds sixth place in program history for career digs with a total of 1,705.
Central Missouri opened the second set with a strong start, going on a 9-2 run that included kills from Bria Dawson—who finished with five kills and three blocks—Kaelyn McDonald—who led all players with five blocks and also had four kills—and Emma Siron, who contributed four kills and two digs.
The Jennies completed their eighth sweep of the season and extended their winning streak to seven matches after closing out the third set behind three kills each from juniors Shaye Koski (team-high six kills and five digs) and Maya Fergerson (five kills).
Setter Kayla Baer registered a match-high 25 assists along with eight digs and two blocks. Lauren Blake added five kills on ten attempts for a .300 hitting percentage as well as three blocks.
Central Missouri’s offense hit .229 compared to Newman's -.010. Freshman Ragin Corwin tallied seven digs and two assists while defensive specialist Brenna Kelly chipped in four digs.
Central Missouri will continue its MIAA schedule Thursday, October 16, facing No. 9 Washburn Ichabods at Whiting Fieldhouse in Topeka, Kansas. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m.
