Central Missouri Jennies volleyball sweeps Missouri Southern Lions during Cancer Awareness Night

No. 24 Central Missouri Jennies Volleyball improved their record to 12-3 overall and 4-1 in the MIAA after defeating the Missouri Southern Lions (6-10, 0-5 MIAA) in straight sets on Tuesday, October 7. The match, held at Dr. Peggy Martin Court inside the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg, was part of Cancer Awareness Night and a Pink Out event.

Central Missouri started strong, building a four-point lead before going on a 10-1 run, sparked by a kill from middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald. The team secured the first set 25-14. McDonald, who is the reigning MIAA Defensive Athlete of the Week, finished with 11 kills on 21 attempts for a .429 hitting percentage, two service aces, and one block.

In the second set, with the score tied at six, Central Missouri began a 4-1 run initiated by junior Maya Fergerson’s kill and maintained control for a 25-20 win. Fergerson contributed five of her six total kills during this set.

The Jennies completed their seventh sweep of the season by ending the third set on a 13-4 run, highlighted by three kills from redshirt sophomore Emma Siron. Siron led all players with 14 kills and added six digs as Central Missouri out-hit Missouri Southern .303 to .165.

Bria Dawson tied her season-high with seven kills, while Lauren Blake recorded four kills and two digs.

On defense, Grace Winkelmann led with 16 digs, along with four assists and three service aces. Ragin Corwin matched her career-high with 13 digs.

Setter Kayla Baer finished with 36 assists, eight digs, two kills, and one block. Brenna Kelly added six digs to the effort.

Central Missouri will continue conference play on Friday, October 10, traveling to face Pittsburg State Gorillas (8-7, 2-3 MIAA) at John Lance Arena in Pittsburg, Kansas at 5:00 p.m.
