Central Missouri Jennies volleyball defeats No.1 Central Oklahoma on the road

Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team secured a significant win against the top-ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos on Saturday, October 4, at Hamilton Field House in Edmond. The Jennies, who are receiving votes in national polls, improved their record to 11-3 overall and 3-1 in MIAA play with a 3-1 victory (19-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-20).

After losing the first set, Central Missouri responded strongly in the second set with a 7-2 run. Key contributions came from Emma Siron, who finished with 14 kills and 11 digs; Lauren Blake, who posted five kills and a career-best four blocks; and Kaelyn McDonald, who led the team with a career-high 16 kills and six blocks. The Jennies evened the match by winning the second set 25-16.

In the third set, Central Missouri started with a 5-2 run and went on to claim a 25-18 win. Siron's fourteenth kill gave them a crucial edge as they took a 2-1 lead in sets.

The fourth set was tied at 15 before block assists from Kayla Baer and McDonald helped Central Missouri take control for good. The team closed out the match with a 25-20 win. This marked their first road victory over a top-five opponent since defeating No. 2 Washburn in October of 2021.

Kayla Baer recorded her 1,000th assist at UCM during this match and finished with a match-high of 47 assists along with 11 digs, three kills, and two blocks.

Three Jennies players reached double digits in kills: Rachel Ziesman matched McDonald's team-high of 16 kills on an efficient .382 attack percentage while also contributing four blocks and two digs. Shaye Koski added seven kills, three digs, and two blocks as Central Missouri outhit Central Oklahoma .291 to .200.

On defense, Brenna Kelly led the back row with 19 digs. Libero Grace Winkelmann collected 16 digs and five assists while Ragin Corwin added another thirteen digs.

Central Missouri will continue MIAA conference play on Tuesday, October 7 against Missouri Southern Lions (6-9 overall) during Cancer Awareness Night at Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center in Warrensburg.
