Ernst scores twice as Jennies defeat Ashland Eagles with clean sheet

Central Missouri Jennies Soccer secured a 2-0 victory over the Ashland Eagles on Friday at GVSU Soccer Field in Allendale, Michigan. The win came with two goals from junior forward Mikayla Ernst and a shutout performance by goalkeeper Kristen Wright.

Ernst opened the scoring in the 26th minute, receiving an assist from Izzy Joyce and sending the ball into the lower left corner of the net. She added her second goal in the 64th minute, striking from the center of the box to increase Central Missouri’s lead.

Despite being outshot 21-5 by Ashland, Central Missouri made all five of its shots count, placing each one on target. Ashland recorded six shots on goal and had an 11-1 advantage in corner kicks but was unable to convert any opportunities.

Wright finished with six saves for her second shutout of the season and improved her record to 1-1-1 for 2025.

Ashland’s offense was led by Emily Pate and Dani Hicks, who each had two shots on goal. Goalkeeper Jaya Daniel allowed two goals and made three saves over 90 minutes for Ashland.

The Jennies (1-1-1) will next face No. 4-ranked Grand Valley State on Sunday in Allendale.

"Ernst, a junior forward from Raymore, Mo., scored her first goal of the match, which turned out to be the game-winner, in the 26th minute via an assist from Izzy Joyce, slotting Joyce's pass into the lower, left corner of the goal."

"She completed the brace and doubled the UCM lead in the 64th minute, netting her second goal of the contest on a shot from the center of the box into the lower, right corner of the goal."

"Wright improved to 1-1-1 in goal in 2025 and earned her second shutout of the season after allowing no goals while making six saves in 90 minutes."
