Bothwell Regional Health Center has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) with three Get With The Guidelines achievement awards. These awards highlight the center's commitment to implementing research-based guidelines for treating heart disease and stroke, which contribute to saving lives, reducing recovery times, and minimizing hospital readmissions.

According to the AHA’s 2025 Statistical Update, heart disease and stroke rank as the first and fifth leading causes of death in the United States. Studies indicate that patient recovery improves when healthcare providers consistently adhere to treatment guidelines.

The Get With The Guidelines program aims to align patient care with the latest evidence- and research-based standards. Bothwell qualified for these awards by demonstrating a commitment to enhancing quality care through participation in this program.

“Bothwell is committed to improving care by adhering to the latest treatment guidelines and streamlining processes to ensure timely and proper care for heart attacks and strokes,” said Lori Wightman, Bothwell’s CEO. “Get With The Guidelines programs make it easier for our teams to put proven knowledge and guidelines to work on a daily basis, which helps us ensure more people in our area experience longer, healthier lives.”

This year, Bothwell received awards in three categories: Rural Stroke Gold, Rural Coronary Artery Disease – ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) Bronze, and Rural Coronary Artery Disease – Non-ST-Elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS) Silver.

“These awards show Bothwell’s commitment to caring for those in their community who need cardiovascular care,” said Donald Lloyd-Jones, past volunteer president of the American Heart Association and current volunteer chair of the Association’s Quality Oversight Committee. “By following the American Heart Association’s quality improvement protocols, Bothwell can help realize our shared vision of improved patient outcomes, fewer readmissions and lower mortality rates — a win for health care systems, families and communities.”

Bothwell Regional Health Center continues its dedication to high-quality cardiovascular care through its recognition from the American Heart Association.
