The Transformation of Rural Community Health (ToRCH) Be Well Leadership Board has granted funding to two organizations in Pettis County. SC Fuel LLC and Diatribe KC MO, Inc. have been awarded grants for projects aimed at improving community health.
The ToRCH program, supported by the MO HealthNet Division, focuses on enhancing rural health by addressing factors like housing, transportation, and food access. Bothwell Regional Health Center is among six hospital hubs participating in ToRCH.
Allison Brosch, chair of the ToRCH Be Well board and Dean of Health Sciences at State Fair Community College, emphasized the impact of non-medical factors on health: “Improving access to healthy food, safe housing and more support resources improves health and wellness in our community.”
SC Fuel received $42,000 for equipment to prepare 500 meals weekly for eligible recipients with approved medical diagnoses. Owner Sandra Fisher stated their goal is to offer healthier food options that improve health outcomes: “We have seen how our food helps people with medical issues improve their health.”
Diatribe KC MO received $30,000 to enhance public outreach and provide diabetic supplies. Treasurer Samatha Davis expressed gratitude: “Our organization has grown to provide more resources as well as support for people with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.”
