UCM Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, Matt Howdeshell, announced that the Jennies softball team will play on a new AstroTurf infield surface starting in 2026. "As we've done with all of our facility enhancements, we continually look to improve the student-athlete and fan experience," Howdeshell stated. The project aims to enhance safety and playability by partnering with AstroTurf and Mid-America Sports Construction.

The upgrade includes turfing the entire infield, extending through foul territories toward the dugouts. This will create an all-weather playing surface, reducing rainouts and allowing more postseason games. The turf is used by 70 percent of NCAA Division I programs and is designed to improve ball bounce while ensuring player safety.

Head Coach Susan Anderson expressed gratitude for the support: "We are very thankful for our administration for supporting this turf project and enhancing Jennies Field for our student-athletes' experience." She added that the new artificial turf would enable more frequent play and training regardless of weather conditions.

Mid-America Sports Construction, based in Lee's Summit, Mo., will begin work on July 15, expecting completion by August 19. Brock Wilson from Mid-America Sports Construction said they are proud to bring an all-weather surface to Central Missouri's program: "We have always been big fans of the Mules and Jennies."
