Fitzgibbon Hospital is offering a Grief Recovery Program beginning on July 8, aimed at helping individuals who are grieving the loss of loved ones, marriages, pets, or other significant losses. The program is funded by the Fitzgibbon Home Health and Hospice Memorial Fund and provides tools to help participants move forward in their grief.
The nine-week program starts with an introductory community meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, from 6 to 7 p.m. at Fitzgibbon Hospital's classroom suite. Attendance is free of charge, and each participant receives a book as part of the program.
Throughout the sessions, attendees will be guided through a specific curriculum designed to provide them with tools to heal emotionally. Participants will break into small groups for discussions where they are encouraged to leave judgments and comparisons behind to foster a supportive environment.
"Since grief is a matter of the heart, not the mind, we have to move beyond simple knowledge and get to a place where we see how our experiences in the past and present affect our grief," said Board-Certified Chaplain Richard DeFord. DeFord has received special training in the Grief Recovery Method and emphasized that participants often discover deeper patterns affecting their grief during these sessions.
The Grief Recovery Program runs until mid-September with eight evening sessions following the initial information meeting. Sessions will be held at Fitzgibbon Hospital located at 2305 S. 65 Highway in Marshall. For more details about participation, interested individuals can contact Chaplain DeFord at (660) 831-3235 or visit www.fitzgibbon.org/grief.
