The annual Health Fair hosted by Fitzgibbon Hospital is set to take place on Friday, April 25, from 7 to 10 a.m. in the hospital's atrium. This event aims to provide convenient access to various health screenings, underlining the hospital's commitment to "Improving the Health of our Community."
Richard DeFord, Fitzgibbon Hospital's Manager of Marketing and Spiritual Care, highlighted the significance of the Health Fair. "We have provided the Fitzgibbon Health Fair for many years, and the evaluations from those participating always demonstrate how important this event is for them," DeFord said. Feedback often includes appreciation, with some participants noting that the fair's results are a major way they track their health.
The event offers community members low-cost blood tests and screenings. This year's package includes tests for blood sugar, hemoglobin A1c, electrolytes, fluid balance, kidney and liver function, cholesterol, thyroid stimulating hormone, and anemia—all for $30. A Vitamin D test is available for an additional $20. Low Vitamin D levels may lead to fatigue, sleep issues, chronic pain, and depression.
Miles Romney, PA, will attend the event to speak with individuals at risk for osteoporosis. Romney launched an osteoporosis clinic at Marshall Family Practice earlier this year.
Men can receive a PSA test for prostate cancer screening for $10. Free screenings available during the event include blood pressure checks, body mass index assessments, and respiratory function evaluations.
DeFord emphasized improvements in the registration process. "We have really streamlined our registration process through the years with the availability of online pre-registration," he said. Pre-registration is available at www.fitzgibbon.org/preregister until April 21, offering attendees a more efficient experience. Those who pre-register pay for their tests upon arrival and proceed to the screenings.
Participants needing blood tests are required to fast for 12 hours to ensure accurate results, which is why the event is scheduled in the morning. A complimentary light breakfast is available for those undergoing blood draws.
For further information, interested individuals can contact DeFord at (660) 831-3235. The Health Fair is annually sponsored by Fitzgibbon Hospital in collaboration with The Marshall Democrat-News and KMMO radio, both contributing to event publicity. Pre-registration can be completed at www.fitzgibbon.org/preregister.
