The B-2 Spirit stealth bomber, a key component of U.S. airpower, will be tested in a surety inspection at Whiteman Air Force Base this spring. The 509th and 131st Bomb Wings will conduct the inspection to evaluate safety measures and reliability.
These inspections occur every two years, examining personnel, materials, and procedures to minimize adverse incidents and reinforce U.S. deterrence credibility. "These inspections serve as the opportunity for us to demonstrate to our nation’s military leaders that we are fully trained, fully compliant and fully ready to execute our strategic mission if called upon," said Air Force Col. Keith Butler, 509th Bomb Wing commander.
Whiteman's capabilities are vital to U.S. Strategic Command and Air Force Global Strike Command success. The inspections help maintain trust in mission capabilities, ensuring the wings are always ready for their high-stakes mission.
Airmen play a crucial role in maintaining standards across the installation. A successful inspection depends on understanding each Airman's contributions. Team members focus on detail, disciplined checklist usage, and proper documentation for favorable ratings.
"Our junior enlisted Airmen are the tactical force behind our operations and will be at the forefront of the inspection," Butler stated. He emphasized that non-commissioned officers (NCOs) supervise preparation and execution while civilian employees provide valuable experience from previous inspections.
The inspection ensures that Whiteman's wings uphold high standards for a safe, secure strategic force ready for global strike capabilities when needed.
