Central Missouri Jennies volleyball will continue their Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) schedule on Friday, October 24, facing the Missouri Southern Lions in Joplin. The match is set for 6:00 p.m. at Robert Ellis Young Gymnasium and will be available to watch via pay-per-view on the MIAA Network.
The Jennies, who are receiving votes in national polls, currently hold a 14-5 overall record and a 6-3 mark in conference play. Last week, Central Missouri lost two road matches against No. 2 Washburn and Emporia State.
Redshirt senior Grace Winkelmann has achieved 1,731 career digs, placing her sixth in program history. She trails only Kylie Holen’s record of 1,996 digs from 2015 to 2018. Winkelmann leads the team defensively this season with 347 digs and averages nearly five digs per set.
The team returned 14 players from last year’s roster and added six newcomers, including transfers Shelbi Wilson from Hutchinson Community College and Kaelyn McDonald from Arkansas-Fort Smith. Four freshmen have also joined: Ragin Corwin, Bria Dawson, Aspen Nelsen, and Sammy Klotz.
Central Missouri has dominated the all-time series against Missouri Southern with a record of 79 wins, two losses, and one tie. In games played in Joplin, the Jennies are 31-1. Last season, they swept Missouri Southern in straight sets led by Tiffany Little and Maya Fergerson.
Statistically this season through 19 matches, Central Missouri averages over 17 digs and nearly 14 kills per set. Middle blocker Kaelyn McDonald leads the team with 70 total blocks and holds a .320 hitting percentage. Kayla Baer leads in assists with a total of 738 so far this season.
Emma Siron leads the Jennies with 236 points and has recorded nine or more kills in eleven matches after returning from injury last year. Rachel Ziesman is second on the team in blocks while Shaye Koski is second in kills.
Head coach Caitlin Peterson guided Central Missouri to its first NCAA Tournament appearance under her leadership last year—the program’s thirty-seventh overall—with an even postseason record that includes eight regional championships.
After Friday’s game at Missouri Southern, Central Missouri will host No. 7 Central Oklahoma Bronchos on October 31 at Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center for Halloween Trick or Treat Night.
