Western Missouri Medical Center (WMMC) has introduced a new PET/CT scanner, a development that aims to improve diagnostic imaging and patient care in Warrensburg and the surrounding region. The ribbon cutting event was organized in partnership with the Warrensburg Chamber of Commerce and featured remarks from hospital and foundation leaders.

Darinda J. Dick, President and CEO of WMMC, highlighted the significance of the project: “This is such a special project for us, because we’re not just celebrating WMMC’s success; but also, the success of our Foundation. For years, we had to pay to bring a mobile PET/CT unit to our campus – reducing the availability and ease for patients and staff. Now, we’re the first in our region to bring this advanced technology on site, and we’re very proud of that.”

The PET/CT scanner was funded through a campaign that raised $1 million, with additional investment from WMMC, bringing the total project cost to nearly $1.8 million. The funding supported both the purchase of the equipment and renovations in the Medical Office Building.

Jan Glover, President of the WMMC Foundation Board, addressed supporters by saying, “Your belief in the hospital and your investment in our community’s healthcare has helped us grow programs, improve technology, and—most importantly—expand patient access.”

The PET/CT technology combines two types of imaging to help detect and monitor conditions such as cancer, heart disease, and brain disorders at earlier stages. Darinda J. Dick also noted that the new machine serves as a backup for WMMC’s primary CT scanner, ensuring continuity of emergency care for stroke and trauma patients.

Jake Corson, Director of Diagnostic Imaging at WMMC, commented on the impact of the upgrade: “This technology, combined with the dedication of our staff, allows us to provide the highest level of care to the patients we serve.”

WMMC is an accredited acute care county medical center offering a range of inpatient and outpatient services in Warrensburg. More information about its recent campaign and new technology is available at www.wmmc.com/raisingthebar.
