The University of Central Missouri Mules Football team lost to the No. 18-ranked Northwest Missouri State University Bearcats with a final score of 49-32 on Saturday, October 11, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg, Missouri.
Central Missouri began the game strongly, taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter with touchdowns from Keyon Butler and Hogan Wasson. However, Northwest Missouri State responded by scoring 21 consecutive points and led 21-14 late in the second quarter. Will Peacock kicked a 31-yard field goal as time expired in the first half, narrowing the deficit to 21-17 for Central Missouri.
In the third quarter, Northwest Missouri State extended its lead by outscoring Central Missouri 14-0, resulting in a 35-14 advantage going into the fourth quarter. The Mules managed to outscore the Bearcats in the final period 15-14, but it was not enough to overcome the deficit.
Central Missouri quarterback Donovyn Omolo completed 22 of 45 passes for 256 yards and two passing touchdowns. He also rushed for 68 yards on 14 carries and scored a rushing touchdown. On defense, Garrett Hormann and Abraham Hoskins III each recorded 12 tackles. Isaac Montgomery and Malachi Howard contributed with interceptions.
Northwest Missouri State finished the game with a total of 501 offensive yards compared to Central Missouri's 394 yards. The Bearcats held a significant edge in rushing yards at 358-138, while Central Missouri led in passing yards at 256-143.
Bearcat quarterback Zechariah Owens led his team with 124 rushing yards on 11 carries and four rushing touchdowns. He also completed seven of fourteen passes for eighty yards and threw two touchdown passes.
Central Missouri's record now stands at three wins and three losses overall (3-3), with a conference record of three wins and one loss (3-1 MIAA). The Mules are scheduled to play their next game against Washburn on Saturday, October 18, at Yager Stadium in Topeka, Kansas.
