Morgan Pearson caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Donovyn Omolo with five minutes left in the fourth quarter, helping the University of Central Missouri Mules Football Team secure a 35-34 win over the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos in an MIAA game on Saturday at Chad Richison Stadium.
The Mules, now holding a 3-2 overall record and remaining undefeated in conference play at 3-0, are set to play against No. 24 Northwest Missouri State Bearcats (4-1, 3-0 MIAA) on Saturday, Oct. 11, at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field in Warrensburg.
After Central Oklahoma tied the game at 28 with just over six minutes remaining, Omolo led a six-play, 75-yard drive that ended with his pass to Pearson for a go-ahead touchdown. The Bronchos responded with their own drive and scored another touchdown but missed the extra point attempt, leaving the score at 35-34 in favor of Central Missouri.
In the closing moments of the contest, Central Missouri's defense held off any further scoring attempts by Central Oklahoma to clinch the victory.
Omolo completed 20 of his 40 passes for 331 yards and threw two touchdown passes. He also rushed for two touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass from wide receiver Marlon Lindsey Jr., totaling five touchdowns for himself during the game. Hogan Wasson led all receivers with nine catches for a career-high 190 yards and scored on a long touchdown reception early in the second quarter. Armand Russell recorded a personal best with three catches for 51 yards. Lindsey Jr. contributed both as a passer and receiver with one passing and one receiving touchdown.
On defense, Michael Harris registered two sacks totaling ten yards lost. Garrett Hormann had nine tackles—including several tackles-for-loss—a sack, and recovered a fumble. Trenton Bell made thirteen tackles while Abraham Hoskins III added twelve tackles and forced a fumble. Drew Kaufman also forced a fumble, while Kyan Franklin notched another sack.
Despite being outgained by Central Oklahoma—617 total yards to UCM’s 500—the Mules converted all four red-zone opportunities into points and recorded four sacks along with two fumble recoveries.
For Central Oklahoma, quarterback Jett Huff completed 32 passes for nearly four hundred yards and threw four touchdowns; William Mason ran for over one hundred sixty rushing yards; Ashton Schumann collected ten receptions for nearly two hundred receiving yards plus a score.
