The Central Missouri Jennies volleyball team secured a 3-1 victory over the Arkansas-Fort Smith Lions on Friday, Oct. 3, at Gayle Kaundart Arena in Fort Smith, Arkansas. The match scores were 23-25, 25-21, 25-23, and 25-21.
After losing the first set and trailing late in the second, Central Missouri responded with a decisive run led by middle blockers Rachel Ziesman and Kaelyn McDonald. Ziesman finished with 12 kills on a .310 hitting percentage, while McDonald recorded 13 kills with a .385 attack percentage, four digs, and three blocks.
The Jennies started strong in the third set with a 4-1 run that ended with an ace from redshirt senior Grace Winkelmann. Winkelmann achieved a match-high of 29 digs during the game. This performance increased her career total to 1,622 digs, moving her to seventh place in program history ahead of Sarah Dallas (1995-98).
Central Missouri took control in the fourth set after tying at 11 points. A kill from Ziesman followed by two aces from Winkelmann helped secure their tenth win of the season and their second win in MIAA conference play.
Four players from Central Missouri reached double-digit kills during the match. Emma Siron led with 14 kills along with 11 digs and two blocks. Shaye Koski added ten kills and eight digs.
Setter Kayla Baer had her third match this season surpassing fifty assists, finishing with a season-high of 53 assists plus nine digs and five kills on eleven attempts for a .455 hitting percentage.
Maya Fergerson contributed nine kills and two digs while freshman Ragin Corwin added seven digs.
Central Missouri will continue its MIAA schedule Saturday afternoon against No. 1 ranked Central Oklahoma Bronchos at Hamilton Field House in Edmond, Oklahoma. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
