The University of Central Missouri Mules Football team lost its home opener to the 13th-ranked Colorado State Pueblo Thunderwolves, 29-24, during the annual Get the Red Out game at Walton Stadium/Kennedy Field on Thursday, September 11.
Central Missouri led at halftime with a score of 17-10 but was outscored by CSU Pueblo in the second half, allowing the visitors to secure a five-point win. The defeat leaves the Mules with an 0-2 record as they prepare for their MIAA conference opener against Missouri Western in St. Joseph, scheduled for Saturday, September 20 at 6 p.m.
Jack Pospisil set a new single-game receiving yards record for Central Missouri with 252 yards on 12 catches and scored a touchdown. Wide receiver Hogan Wasson also had a strong performance, recording a career-best 128 yards on 12 receptions.
Quarterback Donovyn Omolo completed 22 of his 42 passes for 263 yards but threw three interceptions. He also led the team in rushing with 103 yards on 15 carries. Jordan Pachot entered as quarterback in the second half and finished with an 11-for-20 passing line for 160 yards and one touchdown. Running back Keyon Butler contributed another touchdown for UCM.
On defense, Garrett Hormann made 13 tackles while Drew Kaufman added 11 tackles and recorded two-and-a-half tackles-for-loss totaling six yards. Kyan Franklin, Michael Harris, and Jayden Rauls each registered sacks. Talon Sanders broke up three passes, and Isaac Greer along with Brennan Schneider recovered fumbles.
Central Missouri outgained Colorado State Pueblo overall with a total of 536 yards to CSU Pueblo's 373. In passing yardage, UCM held an advantage of 439 to CSU Pueblo’s 250; however, CSU Pueblo surpassed UCM in rushing yards by compiling a total of 123 compared to UCM’s 97. The Mules managed more first downs (25) than their opponents (22), but trailed in time of possession by three minutes.
For Colorado State Pueblo, quarterback Roman Fuller went 16-for-38 for 250 passing yards and two touchdowns. Dedrek Taylor-Akins led their receivers with seven catches for a total of 170 yards.
