Air Force Global Strike Command has chosen Whiteman Air Force Base as its candidate for the 2025 Commander in Chief’s Annual Award for Installation Excellence. This award honors the exceptional and innovative efforts of those who operate and maintain U.S. military installations.
"Our selection is a testament to our hard work, dedication, and commitment to making Whiteman Air Force Base an exemplary model of installation excellence," stated Col. Keith Butler, commander of the 509th Bomb Wing.
Installations are evaluated based on their success in meeting the Department of Defense's objectives across various areas including mission support, energy conservation, quality of life and unit morale, environmental stewardship, real property management, safety, health and security, communications, and public relations.
"We leveraged our team’s talents through intentional and deliberate Airmen development across the installation while embracing innovation and taking calculated risks," explained Col. Illya Thomas, commander of the 509th Mission Support Group. "We accelerated modernization efforts, integrating cutting-edge systems and upgrading critical capabilities to build readiness. Our team’s commitment to excellence led to AFGSC’s nomination for the CINC Award."
The award acknowledges installations that enhance mission performance as well as improve living conditions for military personnel and their families. The winners from each military service will receive a commemorative trophy, flag, and a congratulatory letter from the President. The results will be announced in 2025.
