The University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team, ranked No. 18, defeated the Missouri Southern Lions with a 6-0 victory during their MIAA match on Friday evening at the South Recreation Complex in Warrensburg.
Six different Jennies players scored in the game. Mikayla Ernst opened scoring three minutes into play, marking her 12th goal of the season and leading both her team and the conference. In the 22nd minute, Jada Dibbini netted her first collegiate goal with an assist from Aspen Patterson. The Jennies led 2-0 at halftime.
Early in the second half, Coryn Jespersen scored in the 48th minute off a pass from Patsy O'Brien for her fourth goal this year. Patterson then added to the tally two minutes later with help from Jespersen, making it her second goal of the season and putting Central Missouri ahead 4-0.
Rylie Hughes extended the lead to five goals after scoring her first of the season on an assist from Izzy Joyce. Acacia Weis finished scoring by heading in a corner kick from Sophia Campbell in the 89th minute for her first collegiate goal.
Central Missouri outshot Missouri Southern 19-6 overall and held a significant advantage with a 14-2 margin in shots on target as well as a 6-0 lead in corner kicks.
Goalkeepers Kristen Wright, Hannah McFarlane, and Hayleigh Martin combined for UCM's eleventh shutout of the season by keeping Missouri Southern scoreless throughout all ninety minutes.
The Jennies (10-3-4 overall; 7-1-3 MIAA) will next host Pittsburg State (12-2-2; 7-1-2 MIAA) on Senior Day this Sunday at home. Before that match begins at 1 p.m., seniors Rylie Hughes and Anna Lack will be recognized.
