Levi Harris, DO, a third-year resident physician in the Bothwell-University of Missouri Rural Family Medicine Residency program, has recently gained national attention through his presentations and publications. Harris delivered a case presentation at the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) on a patient who developed a blood clot in the shoulder after prolonged pickleball play. ACSM is recognized as the largest organization dedicated to sports medicine and exercise science globally.

The oral presentation was acknowledged as one of the top 10 abstracts and was supported by Drew Glover, MD, from Western Missouri Medical Center. Misty Todd, MD, residency director at Bothwell Cole Camp Clinic, emphasized that engaging in such scholarly activities is crucial for residents' training. "This work showcases our residents’ research," she stated. "These opportunities provide a platform for sharing research, connecting with colleagues and gaining feedback on their work."

Harris hails from Springfield, Missouri, and will soon complete his family medicine residency. He plans to further specialize by undertaking a one-year sports medicine fellowship at the University of School of Medicine in Columbia. Dr. Todd praised Harris's performance: “Dr. Harris has been a standout resident in the program.”

In March, Harris had his case report published in Current Sports Medicine Reports, an ACSM journal. The report detailed a patient with neurolymphomatosis seen previously in a sports medicine clinic. The publication was co-authored by Dr. Todd and Luke Stephens, MD.

Additionally, Harris presented another case at the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine regarding a college football athlete with vascular disease of his legs. This presentation was made with support from Tiffany Bohon, MD.

Dr. Levi Harris continues to gain recognition within medical circles as he prepares to transition into specialized training focused on sports medicine.
