Mackenzie Smith, a sophomore defender for the University of Central Missouri Jennies Soccer team, has been named the MIAA Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week. The announcement was made on Tuesday, October 14.
Smith played a key role in helping her team secure two victories during the week of October 13-19. The Jennies defeated No. 24-ranked Northwest Missouri State 2-1 on Friday, October 10, and followed with a 1-0 shutout win against Missouri Western on Sunday, October 12. In the match against Northwest Missouri State, Smith scored her first goal of the season in the tenth minute after receiving an assist from Kate Ricker, giving Central Missouri an early lead.
Over the course of both matches, Smith was on the field for a total of 177 minutes and recorded two points from her goal.
The Jennies are currently ranked ninth nationally and will next play at Central Oklahoma in Edmond on Friday, October 17 at 7 p.m.
