The Central Missouri Jennies softball team lost both games of a doubleheader against the Emporia State Hornets on April 29 during Cancer Awareness Day at Jennies Field in Warrensburg.

The games marked the end of the regular season for the Jennies, who finished with a record of 33-17 overall and 14-10 in conference play. The losses came by scores of 3-2 and 9-6.

In the first game, Central Missouri took an early lead after Taylor Kvale’s sacrifice fly scored Aly Hageman. Marisa Johnson added another run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, bringing home Kyrsten Moran. However, Emporia State tied the game in the fourth inning and scored what would be the winning run in the fifth. Bailey Brumley was charged with the loss as pitcher, while Lexi Blackmon led offensively with two hits.

During game two, Emporia State quickly built a four-run lead before Central Missouri responded. Kvale drove in a run after being hit by a pitch with bases loaded, followed by Jadyn Sheffield’s sacrifice fly and an RBI double from Moran to tie it at four runs each. In the fifth inning, Emporia State scored five more runs; although Johnson and Blackmon each had RBI singles for Central Missouri later that inning, they could not close the gap. Riley Bebb took the loss as pitcher for this game as well.

Blackmon collected four hits over both games to pace Central Missouri’s offense.
