Bothwell Regional Health Center will offer Community CPR/AED and First Aid classes on Saturday, September 20 at the Bothwell Education Center, located at 600 E. 14th St.

The CPR/AED session is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will instruct participants on how to provide CPR for adults, children, and infants, as well as how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED). AEDs are portable devices designed to deliver a shock during sudden cardiac arrest in order to potentially restart the heart.

An optional First Aid course for adults and children will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The classes are recommended for people such as corporate and retail employees, security personnel, law enforcement officers, fitness staff, parents, and grandparents. Bothwell Regional Health Center also offers custom sessions for large groups.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur annually in the United States. Of these incidents, over 100,000 take place outside of the home environment. When CPR is performed correctly along with the use of an AED device, survival rates can double or triple.

The cost is $45 per class or $60 for both sessions. Registration and payment must be completed by September 10. For additional information or to register for the courses, contact Bothwell Education Center at classes@brhc.org or call 660-827-9516.
