Cost of college went up for all students at the University of Iowa

In-state tuition and fees rose 3.4 percent for 2018-19 at the University of Iowa, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Iowa residents paid $9,267 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $302 more than the $8,965 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 237 percent more than residents this year, or $31,233. Their price tag grew 2 percent from $30,609 in 2017-18.

About 58 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Iowa residents. About 38 percent are residents of other states and 4 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 92 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 3,978 students received grants or scholarships totaling $31.2 million and 2,231 students took out student loans totaling more than $16.5 million.

Including all undergraduates (31,656), 16,469 students used grants or scholarships totaling $138.1 million, and 10,436 students took out $70.3 million in federal student loans.
